Does your young self remember this?
Or if you’re a young whippersnapper, see below*.
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.
You may not have known the words of this 16th century chartbuster, but you’ll know the melody. Your subconscious can still probably pick it up from several kilometres away.
Girls & Boys Fitzroy is a nostalgic nod to the Mr Whippy of our youth.
But you’ve grown up now. Older, wiser and definitely a lot more discerning about what you put in your body. Just what does Mr Whippy whip up in that tawdry little van?
Everything we make at Girls & Boys is 100% plant based.
We want to give our bodies a treat, but at the same time we need to give our bodies a break, the environment a break, and especially those poor cows.
We serve super tasty icecreams and desserts, made without animal products nor refined white sugar, using only quality ingredients that won’t make you feel yuck after. And of course we cater to nut allergies and gluten intolerances.
We specialise in vegan gelato & SORBET .
We use a blend of plant-based milks and then we go to town with the flavours, from the classic to the experimental, the virtuous to the downright decadent!
Eat with your eyes.
Come in and drool over our display cabinets with oozing doughnuts, freshly cold pressed juices, colourful smoothies and icecream sandwiches. And then there’s our thick thick thickshakes to suck suck suck on.
Desserts are all about having fun. When you come in, if there’s a queue of people in front of you, have a play with our interactive LED screen. It responds to movement. We love seeing people gesticulate wildly and jump up and down with excitement. Don’t feel embarrassed. Just for the briefest of moments, pretend you’re a kid again. Crazy is good. Bonkers is brilliant.
*Greensleeves was the tune the Mr Whippy van played as he (and it was always a he) was coming down the street. It was always a 40°C+ day and keeping your bare feet on the asphalt as you waited in line was a true test of your ice cream street cred. We say ‘ice cream’ but looking back we’re not sure how much dairy made it into a Mr Whippy choc top.
